Audio Cracking

Hi all, I have bought the following parts: Motherboard - Asus Z170-P CPU - Intel Core i7 6700k PSU - 750W FSP Raider RAM - 2x4GB G-Skill DDR 4 Memory I also have a Geforce GTX 970 along with the above. I installed all the parts and everything works fine except for the sound.

I’ve had some strange issues with my PC since building it It’s had an odd sound problem in which the longer the PC is powered on, the worse it seems to get. Hello everyone. I have recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7. When listening to music, I now hear popping/crackling sounds.

Using the Realtek onboard sound, I get a lot of crackling when playing anything which involves sound. I also have an Asus Xonar DGX dedicated sound card which also suffers from the same problem, to a much lesser extent. If I put the Xonar near the upper area of the motherboard (right above the VGA), it gets much worse. I am stumped because I cannot figure out what could be causing this. Things I tried: The only way to get clear sound is to use the monitor speakers via HDMI (even though it has some background buzzing).

Does anyone know what could be causing this? After reading everything you have already tried all i've got is this -background buzzing sounds like a ground loop.basically electrical noise.

Popping or crackling could be bad cables, the fact that it seems to get worse the higher up you install your card makes me think bad shielding on your board. I'd say maybe try a different power outlet in your house. Also, try better quality cable. If it persists then possibly just bad shielding on you board?

Also, try disabling all sound enhancements. After reading everything you have already tried all i've got is this -background buzzing sounds like a ground loop.basically electrical noise. Sound enhancements are all disabled, tried different cables and got the same result. It gets worse with increased activity on the other devices (especially the hard disk). I can try another outlet but I think I am just going to have to purchase an external sound card.

Weird thing is the card was working perfectly fine on my old motherboard and also I haven't heard any issues regarding this particular motherboard.

I tried another outlet but the result was exactly the same. I will look into the sound card you mentioned as it seems I have no other choice as I cannot isolate the issue.

Thanks for trying to help!
